A solenoid valve in pneumatic system receives an electrical signal and switches compressed air to or from the actuator. The required function depends on whether the actuator is single-acting or double-acting and whether the system requires normally open, normally closed or bistable operation. A complete solenoid valve control system may also include air preparation, the solenoid valve, actuator and position feedback.
